by | Mar 19, 2020 | Business

Have you ever experience a situation where you are sharing with someone the services you provide and they ask for your business card? Well, this happened to me a couple of weeks ago.

” There I was in line about to register my business name with the county, while waiting for my turn, I started talking to everyone around me about my services. They were all very interested and asked for my business card because all new business needs a website and social media to promote their new businesses “

But… I didn’t have one!

So you have just opened a business and you’re here because you want to know if your business still needs a business card or not. There’s a reason why you’re thinking, “Why would I still need a business card when everything is digital nowadays?” At least, that was a questions I had when I was starting my business.

It’s really surprising that in this digital age, many entrepreneurs and business owners still use business cards to introduce their brand, company, and themselves. These cards are just small pieces of paper that are a very powerful tool for marketing.

Believe me when I say…

We always want to leave a lasting impression on our potential clients, and having a business card not only gives us a professional vibe, but it is also the fastest way to make genuine connections. Has someone ever asked you for your business’s contact details and you’ve written it on a piece of paper or napkin? Handing out your business card would’ve been better and it shows how prepared you are.

Nowadays, business cards come with different shapes and sizes. More and more people are getting creative when it comes to the design (and shape) of their business cards and it’s actually becoming a trend.

When choosing and designing a business card, these are the steps to take:

  1. Choose the type of paper
  2. Select a specific shape and size
  3. Add a special finish to the business card                                                         .      (such as gold foil, raised spot, or letterpress)
  4. Order to print!

Also, here are a few samples that can help you decide what kind of business card you need.

Traditional Rectangular Business Card

If you want a classic feel for your business card, go with this one! You can play with the design and the overall look depending on your brand. To differenciate your card from others, people choose different textures and materials. When it comes to design, one can go for modern, use a minimalist template or even opt for a creative business card, you name it—there are infinite designs to choose from. Aside from that, it contains all of the information needed and it fits your wallet, too!

Square Business Card

Square business cards are a fun way of setting your business apart from everyone else. In addition to that, since it’s relatively smaller than the traditional business card, it catches attention easily! This is ideal for brands and businesses that are looking for a fresh yet contemporary design.

Shaped Business Card

Now, if you want your brand to get noticed right away, use a shaped business card. Aside from its unique features, it also lets your business stand out! If you can’t think of a shape you like, websites like Jukebox provides pre-made templates you can download and edit depending on your liking.

After deciding which shape you’d like your business card to be, you might want to decide on what material to use. There’s actually a range of materials to choose from. Let’s run over a few different materials used in making business cards.

Plastic Business Card

Plastic cards are great if you want your business card to look clean and futuristic. Aside from that, because it’s waterproof, a plastic business card will generally last longer than a card made in paper.

I know it sounds crazy—a wood business card? Having these will surely make a lasting impression! You can even choose what wood you prefer from Finnish birch, Bamboo, Walnut, and many more.

Foil Business Card

If you want to impress your client, you might want to add a metallic finish for your card. People will see your products or services has high quality or value when you use foil to your business card. It just gives off a classy feel!

If you’re still not convinced on needing a business card in this digital age, there’s the Smart Business Card! This is an advanced take on a traditional business card. These cards allow you to build networks (like a traditional business card would do) but with the integration of technology. When you give a smart business card to a potential client, they just need to tap the smart business card or scan it with their phone and it will reveal all the details you wish them to see – from all your social media platforms to your personal information. By integrating traditional and digital marketing like this, you will surely attract more potential clients, customers, and collaborators to your brand or business!
